Executive Excellence Diploma Course

ils_leanAn organization does not become lean through strong implementations of the well-known lean tools such as cellular production, standardized work, or just-in-time. The disparity in performance of U.S. automotive manufacturers, who all strongly understand and deploy such tools, is a dramatic case in point. At its core, lean is a business philosophy – a systematic way of thinking - that focuses the organization on value creation. It does this by freeing, aligning, and harnessing the intellectual capability of the entire work force to develop advanced production methods that eliminate waste and build flexibility and high operational control in the work system. Special operational structures and systems, organizational governance models, and management practices—all built upon a demonstrated respect for people—provide the necessary foundation for a genuine lean transformation. Wholesale and strong skills in using lean tools, in a positive and highly motivated lean culture, are a consequence of putting these enabling structures and systems in place. Unfortunately, many companies attempting lean transformation are putting the cart before the horse and therefore their efforts fall short.

The Lean Executive Excellence Diploma is delivered through a 5-day course (4 days if on-site) that carefully weaves the human, managerial, technical, organizational and financial strands of the lean business model together to thoroughly and accurately explain the structure, function, and resulting performance of lean organizations. It provides your key executives the foundational knowledge they need to lead the lean transformation of your business and to establish the architecture and systems needed to support and sustain a lean culture.

The Executive program is highly interactive with lectures supported by hands-on simulations, intense question and answer sessions, plant visits, and the experiences and wisdom of speakers from industry who are navigating their own lean journeys. The program is built around the F35V Strike Fighter exercise, an engaging three-round simulation that enables the participants to integrate and apply what they have learned. Strike- Fighter vividly illustrates relevant technical principles and tools. But unlike other lean simulations, it also demonstrates the criticality of the extended enterprise alignment, supply-chain organization, inter- organizational collaboration and teamwork, effective communications systems, lean performance and financial measurement approaches, and the need for rapid response systems and live operations management approaches. Graduates of this program stress that the lessons reinforced in this simulation could be directly applied in their own organizations.

Price (public seminar): $4,700 per person. Discounts may be available.

Dedicated Offerings

Depending on schedule availability, ILS offers this course to individual companies to build leadership teams for lean transformation and bring everyone into alignment with a common language, understanding, and vision of lean. When held on site and/or when employed as part of our Strategic Transformation Program it is common for our clients to supplement the diploma program with ILS facilitation of strategic business planning sessions that address the ramifications of lean on the corporation’s business model and systems. In addition, ILS also facilitates development of lean roll-out approaches, plans, and schedules. Contact David Veech for more information.
